Hard Enamel, Cloisonne, Hard-Fire Enamel, or Vitreous Enamel, is the oldest enamel process. Known for its durability, Hard Enamel badges were, and are still used, for the military and the government, car badges, and any other place where the best quality is very important.
Hard Enamel badges are the most restricted in terms of colors. As badges are fired, certain colors, such as bright reds, oranges, white, etc. May have black specks, or the colors may appear darker. We also do not recommend this quality if: 1) Your design is complicated with many colors; 2) Your design has many smaller areas, which need to be filled in with colors; 3) Colors, such as red, white, orange, and yellow are very important in your design and they must be very bright. We can accommodate 3-D designs with the Hard Enamel quality. We can also make Hard Enamel badges with transparent enamel colors.
Due to the many steps that the Hard Enamel badge must undergo before it is ready (about 15 steps in total), this quality is the most expensive and now only used for organizations where top quality is most important. We do not recommend this quality for the typical promotional quality lapel pin.
Specifications: Copper material. Approx. 1.0mm thick. Sizes as small as 1/2" or less to 3" or more. Thickness of the badge depends upon the size of the badge and the complexity of your design.
